The work’s title translates to “A shit sea”. To be “in a sea of shit” means being in such a complicated situation from which there is no way back.
Valerio's work takes up this subject through color, which immediately transforms romantic sea surges into storms. The result is an image that takes up from both the Kantian Idea of the sublime and from popular sayings. It puts us face to face with the beauty of trouble, the charm of the end.
The sublime intimidates through the power of natural forces, a sea of shit brings the idea back into the personal (or collective) realm, to the dismay of life, of the moment.
The atmosphere is also close to science fiction, it suggests a world adrift, consumed, holding together romance, irony and drama.
